Shipmate requesting information on mid 1960s AG B School

Request information on the B School ciriculum in the mid 1960s.  I am looking for a bare-bones outline; XX hours Meteorology; XX hours Mathmatics; XX hours Meteorological Instruments; XX hours ASW Oceanography; XX hours Sea, Swell & Surf; [and most importantly] XX hours Aviation Weather Reconnissance, including X hours practicum in flying classroom.

This is information that usually appears on the back of the Class Completion Certificate or Certificate of Training.  Unfortunately, the back of my B School Completion Certificate is blank.

Also, please check your records, Flight Chits or Flight Log Books and let me know if you have the BuNo for the R4D-5T (or) R4D-6T/TC-47H (or) TC-47J aircraft we flew in.  Someone told me this aircraft was once a navigation trainer.

Thanks in advance for looking through your dusty files.

Aloha

Subject: Help Needed

My name is John Wisniewski and I was in the U.S. Navy from 1950 to 1954.  After Boot Camp at Great Lakes I was sent to NAS Memphis, NAS Lakehurst, NAS Norfolk, NAS Jacksonville, Marine Air Base in Opalocka, FL and boarded the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt CVB-42 as an AG3 at Guantanamo Bay.

The USS Franklin D. Roosevelt made a Mediterranean Cruise in 1952 with 16 men in the Aerology Department.   AGC John A. Gassner was our Chief Petty Officer and I was wondering if he might be the same John A. Gassner that was referenced in the Aerograph May 2006 issue.  Can you please check this for me?

Our officer, LCDR J. Paul Powell,  arranged for the Aerology Department to have a group picture taken aboard the ship and I have a copy of the picture and the names of all the men.

After leaving the Navy in 1954 I had no contact with any of them until 2003 when I saw an obituary in the Chicago Tribune for Thomas E. Battle, one of our Aerology shipmates.  When I came home from his wake I went on the internet and started looking for the others.  It took a few years but out of the total of 16 I located 12, including me.  Four are now deceased, including LCDR J. Paul Powell, and four are still unaccounted four.  John A. Gassner is one of them.  Eight of us communicate with each other through e-mail or telephone.

Your help will be much appreciated.   Thank you.

John T. Wisniewski

I am looking for ACG Don McGowan USN (rank in 1985). I'm sure he retired from the Navy probably sometime in the 90's. Don and I were staff members on a scientific expedition (Operation Raleigh) to southern Chile S.A in 1985.  If you know of his present whereabouts I'd appreciate you giving him my contact information. I was stationed at Sub Base Pearl Harbor in 1985 and I think Don was at Corpus. Thanking you in advance

I am attempting to reach an old friend, Todd McDonald.   We served on the Belleau Wood together and he was the best man to my wedding.    We lost touch.    I only know that he moved to Florida years ago and retired.

If you could please pass this email along to Todd, I would greatly appreciated.

Joe and Lisa Greenwood

Note: I am currently mobilized to Guantanamo Bay Cuba, so if he calls, Lisa should be home.

Thanks!!!

Note: eMail: Webmaster@NavalWeather.org for Joe's contact info

I received the following email from a retired captain.  Notice: it is addressed to president@navalweather.org.  Mahlon Trenz, our webmaster has set up email addresses for certain officers and committee chairs so they can be contacted by anyone surfing the internet. They will have a name, but not any of our personal information. GOOD JOB MAHLON.

Subject: Dan Munger

Bill,

I am trying to contact Dan Munger.  We were shipmates on USS Midway 89-91.  Last I saw of Dan and his family was 96-97 when I visited them in Bay St Louis.  I retired in 05.  He was our ship meteorologist.  I saw in your last newsletter that there was a Dan Munger citing.  If you have his contact info, I would be very much obliged if you could please pass my email and phone number on to him? I would like to reestablish linkage.

See Aerograph for contact information

Thanks,  Bill Okoniewski CAPT, USN, ret

If you know where Dan is, please send him this information and info Bill Okoniewski and myself.
