IN MEMORIUM

LCDR Thomas D. "Tom" Deagan, USN (RET)

Thomas D. "Tom" Deagan, LCDR USN RET 1927-2006  78, of Pensacola died Friday, June 2, 2006.  Born in Bradford, PA in 1927, Tom later moved with his family to Akron, OH where he attended High School and joined the Navy in 1945 as an Apprentice Seaman. As an Aerographer's Mate, Tom moved rapidly through the ranks, serving tours in the US and abroad. In 1947 he married his hometown sweetheart and began a family. While stationed in Taipei, Formosa in 1956 Tom was commissioned as an Ensign (LDO). After serving as Training Officer for 'A' and 'B' school, Tom began forecasting Typhoons in Guam and later Hurricanes for the Fleet Weather Facilities in Jacksonville and Pensacola, Florida. Tom's final command was serving as XO and Resource Management Officer for FWF aboard NAS Pensacola. Tom retired in 1970 with 25 years service, making his home in Pensacola.

After a second career in Real Estate with Baars Realty and as Sales Manager for Donovan Realty, Tom transformed his hobby of lapidary and silversmithing into a small business. "Tom's Treasures" allowed him to tour the country with his wife, showing at Arts and Crafts shows and pursuing their love of genealogy.

Tom was active in his community, serving as Disaster Survey Chairman for the American Red Cross, as a member of the Zoning Board of Adjustment for the City of Pensacola and as a Better Business Bureau Consumer Arbitrator. As a lay reader, Tom was also active in Pensacola's St. Michael parish.

Tom left a legacy of humor, quiet strength, intelligence and love that will be remembered by all who had the great joy of knowing him on this earth.

Tom is survived by his wife of 59 years, Virginia "Ginny" Deagan, his daughters Kathleen Deagan, Ph.D. (Larry Harris) of Gainesville and Patricia (Deagan) Bint (Alan Bint) of Pensacola, sons Thomas M. Deagan (April) of Pensacola and Timothy Deagan (Tracy) of Austin, TX., grandchildren Jeremy, Christa, Joel, Ian, Zap, Cassie, Larry Jr., Gabriel and Matthew and great-grandchildren Jordan and Jayden.
