As Chapter President, I guess it is up to me to try to fill the Past President’s shoes. We were saddened to lose two of our long time members in November. Ed Wanzor and Hugh Bucher both passed rather suddenly and we join their widows in sorrow. Hugh was President of the Airship Chapter, which now leaves me, his Vice President as his successor. I hope that I can live up to his standards.
Bill Suydam, AGAN (REL).
We had our Annual Christmas luncheon on December 4, 2007 at the Captain’s Inn. Marie Garrity started the meal with a very nice prayer. Bill Suydam welcomed all and especially the newest widows, Lois Wanzor and Ann Bucher. He also welcomed Toddy MacGayhey. In attendance were: Bill and Joan Suydam, Gene and Carol Merrill, Rod and Pam Elliott, Mike and Marie Garrity, Henry and Bobby Losch, Ann Bucher, Lois Wanzor, Toddy MacGayhey, Norman & Marilyn Macomber, Charles and Carol Moffett, Harry and Pat Whitworth, Al and Jane Parisi, Bob and Lucille Wiorek. The place for our April meeting will be announced.
Time for the notes from various members:
Bob and Lucille Wiorek: Bob and I just wish all our members a healthy 2008.
Harry and Pat Whitworth, spent the holidays with children and grand kids and will be off to Florida on the 28th. We will be back after May 15th. We hope to go to Wisconsin in the fall. We send Merry Christmas and Happy New Year wishes to all.Gene and Carol Merrill: We don't have anything new to say - - We are just gearing up for our winter resort in Hawaii from January 10th to March 1st.Ray and JoAnn Bierly: Learning my new computer, which Ray set up yesterday so my emails have not transferred over yet. Ray spent the day playing Santa Claus trying to get me up and running. He thought he was going to hide the computer at a friend’s home but he can’t keep a secret. We did get to New Jersey but at times it was questionable. It took us longer to get to Newark than it did going to Hawaii last year with Jeff and family because of the ice storms. Finally made it that night, the 13th, around 10:30 P.M. We were at the airport at 9:30 A.M. Bill asked Lisa what she wanted for Christmas and she said her parents. So they flew us up for Ray’s 71st birthday on December 14th. It all worked out for us to have that time together. They even flew in our sister-in-law, Betty Lou, which made it even more of a surprise. It was a wonderful way of being together.
Rod and Pam Elliott: We will be having a quiet Christmas together. But the 28th we leave for Virginia Beach to have Christmas with the Cooper’s. We cannot wait to see Hannah. She grows so fast. She is in 1st grade this year, do not think the school system will be the same. From there we go to SC to have Christmas with the Hollingsworth’s. Then we head to Orlando for 3 weeks. We look forward to this time with Kris and John as well as Pam’s sister and her husband.
We wish all our NWSA friends a wonderful New Year.
Here is hoping 2008 is a healthy New Year.

December 5 2006 was the Annual Christmas Luncheon at the
Captain’s Inn in Forked River. In attendance were: Bob and Lucille Wiorek;
Al and Jane Parisi; Richard and Naomi Edwards; Henry and Bobby Losch;
Carolyn and Charles Moffett; Norman and Marilyn Macomber; Bill and Joan
Suydam; Carol and Gene Merrill; Ann and Hugh Bucher; Lois and Ed Wanzer;
Toddy McGayhey; Pat Whitworth.
The Airship Chapter will meet for a luncheon at the Captain's
Inn on Tuesday, April 17, 2007.
Now for news updates:
The Buchers:
Ann and Hugh are settled into their new home in Little Egg Harbor. We
wish all of you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. May 2007 be kind to
all of us.
Mike & Marie Garrity:
Things haven't changed too much since our last newsletter. Our family is
well & our grandchildren are getting older & starting their own traditions
with their families. We can't get together in one place anymore, so we
visit each home & enjoy seeing how their traditions take form. It’s great
not to have all that stress anymore. Our four children, Michele, Debbie,
Kathy & Mike are wonderful. All look forward to the holidays when
they can share the joy of seeing their grandchildren on Christmas
morning. Mike is the only one who doesn't have grandchildren. His two
girls, Colleen & Kristy aren't even married yet. But he really loves all
his sister's grandchildren.
I am still active in my church. I now sing in the early
service Praise Choir & am a member of the Hand Bell Choir. Mike says I am
there more than I am home. For Thanksgiving I was in the kitchen helping
serve our community a special dinner to all who walked through our doors.
What a blessing it was. We fed about (70) people.
Mike
still never feels good, but he keeps going as best he can. We are looking
forward to our annual Christmas meeting with our Airship Chapter early in
December. It's always so rewarding to see each one again & catch up with
them & their lives. Time seems to be moving so fast we have to find time
to share our love with friends whom we hold so dear. So from our house to
yours, both Mike & I send Christmas greeting & blessings to each &
everyone & a Happy Healthy New Year!
Henry and Bobby Losch:
We enjoyed a wonderful camping trip to the Museum of Appalachia in TN. We
joined 4 couples with whom we camp with at different times. We enjoyed
the mountain crafts. The camp ground provided breakfast and dinner if we
wanted to join the gathering. All in all, we enjoyed the trip.
The Whitworth’s:
Pat was able to join the Christmas Luncheon but Harry had headed to FL. He
has now returned to have Christmas with the family. But come the day after
Christmas, he will be wanting to head south for their wintering over.
The Merrill’s:
After canceling our European trip this past fall because Gene was in the
hospital, we are eagerly looking forward to our annual visit to Hawaii. We
will spend Christmas with our family and leave the 28th of December,
returning March 1st in time for spring clean-up.
The Elliott’s:
November 18th Pam fell and cracked a bone behind her knee. She has been in
bed most of the time since. She can not put any weight on it. She returns
to the doctor the 21st to see how the healing is going. She truly hopes it
has healed as she has had enough. Now, not to say Rod will be more than
happy as he has become nurse, meal preparer, gofer and cheerleader for
getting well. After her being in the hospital last Nov-Dec, he has decided
he his locking her in the bedroom on 1 Nov and letting her out 30 Nov. Or
maybe to cook Thanksgiving dinner.
The Airship Chapter members wish you and yours a Merry
Christmas and Happy New Year.

Time to gather data for the fall edition. Where oh where has the summer
gone?
The Airship Chapter met on Tuesday, August 15th, for their summer social.
Again this year, Charlie and Carol Moffett graciously hosted the event at
their Long Beach Island home. Everyone had a very enjoyable time. There
was plenty of good food and Charlie did a superb job of grilling burgers
and hot dogs. Norm Macomber and Harry Whitworth reported that the
Pittsburgh NWSA reunion was a success. We were especially pleased to learn
of the improvements in the NWSA Scholarship program. The following members
attended the social: Bill and Joan Suydem, Bob and Lucille Wiorek, Charlie
and Carol Moffett, Henry and Bobbie Losch, Harry and Pat Whitworth, Al and
Jane Parisi, Gene and Carol Merrill, Norman and Marilyn Macomber, and Hugh
and Ann Bucher.
Whitworths: Harry and Pat enjoyed a wonderful summer of ‘06 with family
and friends, especially with members of the Airship Chapter. Dinners at
FRA Branch 124 in Lakehurst and church dinners with Toddy MacGayhey were
also a pleasure. We both are looking forward to returning to our condo in
Florida in the fall.
Merrills: Gene has been fighting an infection but is home from the
hospital. He is taking it easy for a few days. He has to get on his feet
as Hawaii is not far down the road.
Losch: Hank & Bobbie are looking forward to a camping trip to Tenn. They
are meeting fellow campers they have become friends with over the years.
MacGayhey: October was the last church dinner for this year. We will all
miss visiting with Toddy and having a good meal. She has been to the apple
orchard and now has started making pies. What a wonderful time of the
year.
Bucher: Hugh & Ann are busy relocating to their new home. It is farther
south from where they have been living.
Elliott: October is NASCAR time so we are packing up the truck and heading
out. There are just a couple of days to spent with Kathy, Dick and Hannah
on the way to NC. Friday October 6th we attended the Navy Ball as we have
done the past 3 years in Atlantic City. As always it was very well done.
Until the next edition, the Airship Chapter wishes all of you Happy
Holidays and a healthy, prosperous New Year.

**This is a portion of
the August presentation from the AIRSHIP CHAPTER that I inadvertently
deleted. ...
My apologies to all …ed…**
Hank and Bobbie Losch enjoyed an extended winter trip. Left shortly after
Christmas for Dallas/Ft. Worth area where we stayed most of Jan. visiting
family. Then on to Mission TX. for the month of Feb. Had a great time with
other winter Texans. Back home by March 10th. Now looking forward to
summer activities and, of course, the BIG BLUEGRASS festival in
Gettysburg, PA. in May.
Ray and Joann Bierly were very blessed to have had Alberto miss them but
did get some rain that is still badly needed. Suzan, Brittany and Grant
were here during that time so camp was canceled on that Tuesday with a
Saturday make-up. We so enjoyed having them all. There was a lot of
activity especially with the pool. At camp they were out on a boat each
day to find the dolphins, which was limited, as many weren’t around
because of the storm. The Clearwater Marine Aquarium is for rescued
mammals so they were educated about animals that have to be taken care of.
Each day Grant would walk me through the Aquarium to pet the Stingrays.
Brittany took the Dolphin course and Grant took the Hatchlings/Sea
Turtles. Ray is active with his 75-pound puppy, Princess. His self-winding
watch no longer stops. He helped put together the files on the computer
for the Finance Committee. Joann was installed as Second Vice-President of
the Hospital Auxiliary on Wednesday, May 3rd. Now it is time to get back
into service. She presented the Proposed Budget to the Board and then the
General Meeting for acceptance of her position. We are both well. Enjoying
our location. It difficult to get Ray to do anything other than stay home
especially with the yard and pool. Our regards to all.
Rod and Pam Elliott are looking forward to a busy summer. Pam
retired-retired 3 March. She can go to Virginia Beach and spend time with
family in May on the way to NC NASCAR races. Rod will be enjoying the
quiet while working his 2 part time jobs. June will take us to the reunion
in PA and 2 days pf Credit Union training. The month of August will be a
road trip. Why not since diesel fuel is soooooo cheap? We will go to the
NASCAR race at the Brickyard on our way to Estes Park CO to a cousin
reunion with Pam’s family. The remaining trip is yet to be plan.

As spring begins to bloom, the Airship Chapter enjoyed our April Spring
Fling at the Captains Inn. It was great to all be together.
In attendance were:
Hugh and Ann Bucher, Henry and Bobbie Losch, Norman and Marilyn Macomber,
Gene and Carol Merrill, Charlie and Carol Moffett, Al and Jane Parisi,
Bill and Joan Suydam, Ed and Lois Wanzor, Rod and Pam Elliott, Rich and
Naomi Edwards, and Bob and Lucille Wiorek.
We missed: Toddy
MacGayhey, Lil Klim, Mike and Marie Garrity, John and Mary Migaleddi,
Harry and Pat Whitworth and Winnie Dunning.
The nominating
committee presented the slate of officers for the coming year. The slate
was approved with no change in officers. President Hugh Bucher
thanked all for attending. The dates for the annual summer picnic at the
Moffett’s home on Long Beach Island as well as the Christmas luncheon were
planned. Hugh mentioned that
there are a total of 5 probable and 2 maybe Airship Chapter members
planning to attend the reunion.
The reporter reminded all to email her news for the Aerograph. July
brought sad news of the passing of Lillian Klim. Lil was with wife
of AGC Albert Klim.
Now for the news: Gene
and Carol Merrill spent January and February at their annual winter
retreat in Waikiki, Hawaii and as usual had a great time. Upon their
return they flew to Florida to see their son, Michael receive his
commission as a Naval Commander. We are looking forward to seeing everyone
at the Moffetts - for the picnic on the 15th of August.
Norm and Marilyn
Macomber
Wilton, Maine celebrates the blueberry each year by hosting a festival
during the first weekend in August. We are usually in attendance. In
addition, this year is the 60th anniversary of the Wilton Academy Class of
1946 graduation from that institution. Returning to "Vacation Land" is
always an interesting trip.
Al and Jane Parisi
joined Gene
and Carol in Hawaii for some fun in the sun.
Charlie and Carol Moffett again look forward to hosting the Airship Chapter
August cookout. Enjoy the fellowship. Regret not being able to attend
national reunion this year due to youngest daughter being a June bride.
Recently returned from a family trip out west.
Stopped in Buffalo, Wyoming for a quick visit with former Aerographer
Gil Bollinger. Gil and I worked at Fleet Weather Central in Norfolk
in 1951 doing all upper air soundings. First I had seen him in over 40
years. He's a published author of western history. I was great to see
him.
Harry and Pat
Whitworth
plan leaving Florida May 6th, for New Jersey. Then go to the reunion in
June. Both
of us are well and have enjoyed another winter in Florida.
Hugh and Ann Bucher
Hugh is happy and relieved to report that a biopsy was negative. Also, in
September the Buchers plan to visit friends in Vermont and Rhode Island.
Mike and Marie Garrity:
Things at the Garrity house are
about the same. We just found out that our grandson, Brian and his wife,
Allison, our daughter Michele's son, are expecting their first baby in
February. This will be (our) 7th. great grand-child. They have been
married two years now and are so excited. Our youngest great grand child
to this point is 2 years old. So, we can look forward to a new precious
baby. Mike's health hasn't really gotten any better, his back has been
hurting him real bad and all he has to do is turn the wrong way or too
quickly or even sneeze and he suffers. I am still very involved with my
church activities and that is a blessing. Our four kids are all well as
are our ten grand children. Life is a struggle with the gas prices for
them, but over all life is good. So, from our house to yours, we send
good wishes of good health and much happiness to one and all.
Marilyn and Norm
Macomber
plan to go to Wilton, Maine a couple of times this summer. One trip will
be over the Memorial Day holiday period and the other during the first
week in August. In addition to the town celebrating a Blueberry Festival,
Norm will be attending the 60th
anniversary celebration of graduation from Wilton Academy. They look
forward to the reunion in Pittsburgh.

that there has been no major happenings in our family as far as poor
health goes. Mike and I have both been down with cold type illness, but
who hasn’t? If that is all we get, then we feel we are blessed. Spring has

The Airship Chapter met on Wednesday, December 6th, at the Captain’s Inn in Forked River for their annual Christmas and Holiday meeting. Before the meal there was a moment of silence in Memory of Frank “Mr. Mac” McGayhey, a beloved long-time member of this Chapter and NWSA, as well.
In attendance were: Hugh and Ann Bucher, Mike and Marie Garrity, Henry and Bobbie Losch, Norman and Marilyn Macomber, Toddy McGayhey, Gene and Carol Merrill, Charles and Carolyn Moffett, Al and Jane Parisi, Bill and Joan Suydam, Ed and Lois Wanzor, Harrry and Pat Whitworth, and Robert and Lucille Wiorek.
Because Pam Elliott has been in the hospital since the day after Thanksgiving, she and Rod were unable to attend. The latest information available is that Pam is recovering and may soon be able to go home.
The next Airship Chapter meeting will be April 11,2006, at the Captain’s Inn.
The Wioreks: Bob had total right knee replacement on October 12. He spent 4 days in the hospital and two weeks in Health South Rehab. Bob is having trouble bending his knee and has to see another doctor. Hope everyone has a Happy Holiday.
The Moffetts: All is well. We are looking forward to hosting the Airship Chapter picnic in August.
The Losches: Looking forward to a trip to Texas for the winter for some R&R. Enjoyed the summer with the Grandchildren around and in the pool. We’re getting to know our granddaughter, Kaitlyn. She and her mother moved home this summer.
The Parisis: Happy to be at the Christmas party and enjoyed seeing everyone. Look forward to our trip to Hawaii and seeing Carol and Gene Merrill there, also.
The Whitworths: At this time we are in Florida. Hope to see everyone in Pittsburgh, PA, in June 2006.
The Garritys: Enjoying our new residence and looking forward to our second Christmas there. From our house to yours, Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy New Year.
The Buchers: We always enjoy getting together with our Airshipmates. We will especially enjoy being able to spend Christmas with our daughter, Kathie, and son-in-law, Burke. Hope to see you in Pittsburgh in June and that 2006 is a great year for all of us.
The Merrills: We are packed and ready to go to our 2nd home which is Waikiki HI. We leave on the 4th of January and will return to NJ on the 4th of March. We will be spending Christmas Holidays here in NJ with our family. Best wishes for a Very Merry Christmas and Healthy New Year to all.
Aloha to all!
The Elliotts: We are having a quit Christmas and New Years this year and thankful for Pam’s improved health. We were thankful to have each daughter take her turn helping us. We plan to get to VA later in January to see granddaughter Hannah. She is 4 ½ going on 10. Granddaughter Amanda is changing college from Fl Atlantic to Coastal in SC. She enjoyed the semester break at home even if she worked most of the time.

The Airship Chapter gathered again at Charlie and Carol Moffett’s lovely home on Long Beach Island for the Annual Summer Picnic. The weather began and ended with a light drizzle but the middle of the function was just perfect. President Bucher began the meeting with a moment of silence in honor of Rocky Rokosz. We will miss him but know he has gone on to continue his goodness in the ever after. The dates for the 2006 Reunion were reported so all could make plans to attend.
Then great food and fellowship began. We will not carry on about the winners of the ring toss, seems to me Ann Bucher and Carol Moffett won a few games. Ann was so interested, she got out a tape measure to record the dimensions so she could go home and make her own ring toss game. Look out next year!!
The Merrill’s' continue to enjoy their travels as they went to Maine in July for a week to enjoy the Yarmouth Clam Festival, with their kin and followed that up with a two (2) week tour and cruise in Alaska. They recommend this trip. It was one of the best they have ever taken. It didn't hurt that they had 14 days of glorious weather. Now they are looking forward to January and February in Hawaii. If anyone is out there during this time, please give us a call at the "Imperial Resort " in Waikiki on Lewers St. This is a block from the Hale Koa.
Marty Bonk, St. Marys, GA: I have some news for the chapter and newsletter. I have met a wonderful woman from St. Simon's Island, Georgia, who is a schoolteacher and has consented to be my wife late this year. I have been given a second chance and I am very grateful. We intend to live on Jekyll Island, Georgia and when I get my new phone number, street address, will let you know.
Hello from the Garritys’:
Mike & I are doing pretty well. We take life easy living out here in the Senior Development. It’s such a slower pace of life. But I remain very active in my church. We just had what we called a "Celebration Week-end" Had activities for adults & especially children all weekend. They even had a "Dunk Tank" which I volunteered to go in. No one thought I would go thru with it. I had a blast. I'm sure my picture will appear in our church newsletter! (Hopefully not on E-Bay.) Our son Mike is getting married (again) in October. He vowed he would never remarry. His Dad will be his best man. Makes me cry. As a family we are looking forward to that very much. How could anyone complain when you give thought to Katrina? We count our blessings everyday & give thanks for what we have, especially the love of our family & friends. We send best wishes to one & all from our house to yours.
The Buchers will be spending a week in Vermont visiting with friends. There will be a lot of pinochle and euchre played.
The Airship Chapter executive board authorized a donation to the Salvation Army for relief efforts associated with the devastation cause by hurricane Katrina.
The Airship Chapter also hopes NWSA members and their families affected by hurricane Katrina will recover quickly from any problems it caused.
Greeting from the Losch’s: Summer activities are over and the pool is closed after a very successful swimming season (water stayed warm). The August Bluegrass Festival in Gettysburg was great as always. Bluegrass is like s-x in this respect, always good – some is better than others. Ha! Now for the hall activities and “yuck” winter.
October brought an end to the summer Church Dinners with the McGayhey’s and other Airship members. The few of us attending enjoy keeping in touch. This evening brought sad news that Mac is having serious health issues. Each one sends prayers and good wishes to him and Toddy. Please keep them in your prayers.
The last of the correspondence is in and that leaves the Elliott’s news. Summer still means plays for Pam and her friend Carol on Long Beach Island. The theater group has begun Broadway on the Beach at Trump Plaza in Atlantic City. And of course, Pam and Carol have to attend those also. Rod is enjoying the Limo job two days a week as well as the RV job one-day week. October takes us back to NC for the NASCAR race. We both are well and busy as always. One granddaughter is off to college while the other is off to preschool (the Ivy League Academy).
The Airship Chapter members send best wishes, good health and Merry Christmas and Happy New Years to all. A very special pray is send to all the Gulf Coast NWSA members and their families.

We had a nice turn out at the Captain’s Inn for the SpringLuncheon
Meeting. President Norm Macomber welcomed all and wished the birthday
group a Happy Birthday and wished The Wanzor’s a Happy
Anniversary. We were so glad to have Marty Bonk from GA join
us. The Election of officers was held. The new officers are listed
above. The Chapter thanked Norm for his many years of service as our
President.
The news from your friends in and around New Jersey is short this time of
the year. Guess we are busy welcoming warm days.
The news from the Macomber’s was there was no news. The Whitworth’s
have returned home early from Florida. Their granddaughter has had major
surgery. They came home to take care of her during her recovery. We all
send our thoughts and prayers to her. The up date is, she is improving
nicely. March 11th she could not move the right side of her body. She
still has trouble writing, but has recovered enough to have a job. They
are both so happy with her that it makes their change of plans worth it so
they could be here with her.
The Bucher’s will be volunteers at the Barnegat Lighthouse State Park
Interpretive Center.
The Garritys' have settled in very nicely in their new home. Marie stays
busy with her church functions and has finally gotten Mike to get
involved. All the family is good. Life is good!
The Merrill's are looking forward to their trip to Alaska.
The Moffett’s are representing the Airship Chapter at the reunion in
Branson. They have volunteered again to host the annual picnic at their
lovely home in Beach Haven
on Long Beach Island.
The Wiorek’s are just looking forward to better weather. They are going
on a cruise with 16 family members in July.
The Parisi’s will be busy this summer as it means baseballgames for
their grandchildren. They enjoy watching the games.
The Elliott’s are taking a month vacation as they head to N.C. for the
races. They will be in WVA, KY, TN, TX, MS, and AL. The 2 weeks in N.C.
will be relaxing after all of that. June took them to Virginia Beach two
weekends in a row. Amanda graduated from high school. She heads to
FL. Atlantic University in Boca Raton. The other trip
was to see 4-year-old Hannah in her dance recital.
Each Airship member sends wishes for good health and
happiness in the summer months!

Our next get together will be on Long Beach Island in August for our
annual picnic. Charles and Carol Moffett will be our hosts.
We look forward to this time to gather to see what each of us has been
doing. We can see what Al and Jane Parise have been doing since we
last saw them in April. We will get to see the Macomber’s as they
have moved north. We miss them at the Fleet and now the church dinners.
Norm, great job you Hugh and Gene and the others did! The Merrill’s
are busy preparing for their next trip. They do not let the grass grow
under their feet. The McGayhey’s are tending to the smaller
garden. Like the government, they are downsizing. The Whitworth’s
are enjoying the summer with the grandchildren. They have to catch
up before they head south for the winter. The Losch’s have been
RVing with the grandsons. Each of us sends better health wishes to Mike
Garrity. He is still not feeling good. We missed Mike and Marie at the
reunion. Bob and Lucille Wiocek will be enjoying the grandchildren
and their activities. They keep grandpa and grandma on the go.
Better health to each of them, also. Ed and Lois Wanzor are
probably busy with family during the summer months. Hugh and Ann Bucher
are resting I am sure. Hugh was very busy as co-chair and Ann and her
fellow seamstress’s did a great job on the shoe bags. That was
such a great idea. We thank Bill and Joan Suydam for their help
with the pictures for the booklet. We missed Elaine Reabold in
Atlantic City but hear she made the golf outing. It was so good to see Winnie
Dunning. It was nice to meet her friend Diane Mathews.
Diane, we hope to see more of you. We have wished Chuck and Linda
Bradley good luck as they move west to retire. Hope they drop in and
surprise us for a visit. As always, the Elliott’s are truly
resting. May and June were rough for these 2 retired folks. Right! Pam is
still with the government contract (7 years now) and Rod has taken on a 2
part time job. I surely hope I have covered all of us. It is rough doing
this without our meetings to pass “the dreaded book” around. Please
forgive the writer if I missed anyone. After all she is getting old.
