CWO3 Olen C. “Bud” Haley USN RET

Olen “Bud” Haley, age 64, of Post Falls, Idaho died Saturday Dec. 16, 2006, at home after a year long battle with liver cancer.  Olen was born Dec. 4, 1942, in Little Rock, Ark. to Olen Haley and Clarine (Ard).  Olen married Maryann DeAngelis.

Bud served his county for 24 years as an Aerographer’s Mate in the U.S. Navy, retiring as a CWO3.  He saw and experienced many places throughout the world.  During his career, Bud took several sea duty assignments so that his family could continue to live in the San Diego area.  He retired in 1985 from the U.S. Navy after 24 years.  Bud was an Administrative Manager for the U.S. Probation District Courts of California for 20 years.  He introduced countless innovations and helped build the administrative division. 

He retired in March 2004 and with his wife, Maryann Haley to Post Falls Idaho, where he loved the people, lakes, rivers, and mountains.  He was a member of the V.F.W. and enjoyed Corvettes.  He was a musician and a passionate reader and writer.  Bud enjoyed going to football games with his sons and grandsons and spending time working on home projects.  Bud influenced many lives through coaching youth sports and with his genuine personality.  He taught through his actions and was a kind and giving man.

Olen is survived by his wife, Maryann of Post Falls; sons, John A. Haley and wife Sahar of San Diego, Robert DeAngelis and daughter of Post Falls, Thomas DeAngelis and wife Cheryl and children of San Antonio; daughter Jennifer L. Cortez and husband Johnny of Post Falls; grandchildren, Brandon Haley, Dominic Haley and Clarina Haley; brothers, James T. Haley of Texas and Michael Haley of Tennessee; sister MaryLee Vickers of Texas, with an additional 11 sisters in Texas and Tennessee; mother-in-law Anna DeAngelis of Post Falls; and numerous nieces and nephews. Olen was preceded in death by parents, Olen and Clarine Haley; and brother Michael Muehlendorf.
