Subject: Passing of Dick Ryan

Greetings, PotChap people.  Please take note of this sad news.
Funeral arrangements for Captain Richard J. RYAN, USMC-Ret, who died Monday, 3/05/07 at the age of 94 are:
            1. Thursday 08 March viewing 1900-2100 and Friday 09 March at 0815-0915EST at Kuzo & Grieco Funeral Home located at 250 West State Street in Kennett Square PA 19348 (www.griecofuneralhomes.com).  Funeral Mass to follow at 1000EST Friday at St.Patrick's in Kennett Square.  Following services, family invites friends to meet at the Italian-American Club on Meredith Street in Kennett Square.
            2.  Full Honors funeral and interment in Arlington National Cemetery begins with Chapel Service on Fort Myer, Arlington VA, at 0845EDT on Wednesday 5/23/07.  Family invites friends to meet in Ft Myer Officers' Club following ceremonies.

Captain Richard J. Ryan, USMC Retired, 94, of Kennett Square died Tuesday, March 6, 2007 at Chester County Hospital.

Captain Ryan was born in Elyria, OH. He was the son of the late Denis J. and Agnes K. Ryan.

He was a 1927 graduate of Elyria Catholic High School.

He entered the Marine Corps in 1934 and served during both WWII and the Korean Conflict. He was an Experimental Test Pilot as well as an Aerologist. Captain Ryan honorably retired after thirty years of service.

Captain Ryan was a company pilot for the All American Engineering Company. He then worked for the Naval Air Engineering Center as a Mechanical Engineer and retired in 1975.

Captain Ryan was a member of the Silver Eagles Washington, D.C. Wing (Enlisted Pilots Association). He was an active member of the USMC League Chester County Detachment.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Kennett Square.

He served as an East Marlboro Township Supervisor.

He was a member of several other organizations including the VFW Post #5467, the Kennett Square American Legion Post and the Awesome Great and Grandfather’s Club.

Richard is predeceased by his loving wife of 53 years, Marian K. Ryan and his oldest son, R. Michael Ryan, and one granddaughter, Leah K. Ryan.

He is survived by nine children, J. Patrick Ryan of King of Prussia, Janey Gifford of Warminster, Kate Ryan of Clearwater FL, Thomas J. Ryan of Broomall, Marne Ryan and William D. Ryan of Anaheim CA, Timothy J. Ryan of Clearwater FL, Stephen J. Ryan of Thornton, PA Peter J. Ryan of Kennett Square, fourteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Arrangements are being handled by the Kuzo & Grieco Funeral Home, 250 State Street, Kennett Square, PA. Family and friends may pay their respects on Thursday evening (03/08/07) between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. and Friday morning between 8:15 a.m. and 9:15 a.m.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday March 9, 2007 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 218 Meredith Street, Kennett Square.

Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made in his honor to the following: Kennett Area Senior Center, 427 S. Walnut St., Kennett Square, PA 19348; Pocopson Home, 1695 Lenape Road, West Chester, PA 19382; Red Clay Valley Association, Wawaset Road, Unionville, PA 19375.
