AG1 JOHN NOLAN USN REL John E. Nolan, 84 of 7 Main St. Brookfield, Mass. died Wednesday, Jan 3, 07. He leaves his wife of 61 years Bertha (Stone) Nolan, two sons David and Timothy. John was born in West Brookfield Mass., the son of John & Dorothy (Burgess) Nolan, and was a graduate of Warren H.S. Class of 1940. Mr. Nolan was a WWII US NAVY Veteran serving as an Aerographer's Mate 1st Class. After his discharge from the Navy in 1951, he served in the Massachusetts State Troopers until his retirement in 1972 as a Staff Sgt. He later worked as a guard for the Worcester Art Museum until 1984. “Strange, but after I retired in 1985 I returned to West Brookfield and lived their until we moved to North Carolina in 1999. I recall seeing John at the VFW a few times. Yet neither he nor I realized we were both AG's. So we never compared notes about former shipmates from the AG rating.” Submitted by CWO4 Mel Harder USN RET
